Thanks Tech808, appreciate you always being quick to respond and willing to help out. - I looked at that but honestly it doesn't mean much to me (not that it's not good info just kinda foreign to me). About the only thing I got out of it was that I could gain some additional channels.

Was hoping to hear from folks who have experience with it. Would like to know if it is a solid unit or would I be better served to go with something else.

I certainly like the looks of the radio but that does squat as far a performance. Called Copper today - they had the wrong picture up so no Galaxy Saturn Turbo

I'm having a receive problem with my TR696F. After a while of having it on people start to sound off frequency. Hard to understand. Then it will clear up on it's own after a few minutes only to do it again. I took it to a local tech and of course it wouldn't do it for him. He didn't know what it was but said he "cleaned and aligned my receive". It still does it. I love the radio, but it's really annoying when it acts up. Any ideas?

Wally,

If it is still under the Factory Warranty I would Call & Return it to Ranger to have it completely checked out.

Thanks for the help Lon.

I went ahead and purchased it along with the Texas Ranger 696F Base Unit (wanted a bigger and better radio but budget wouldn't allow, was offered a Saturn Turbo for $400.00 but he is the second owner,I do not know him nor is he in this state so - I figured better safe than sorry)along with the Top One Antenna and some other stuff like the Polyphaser and a Workman 3 meter SWR, Mod & PEP meter. I will have to seriously save for a nice base amp next as I know the wife won't be happy I spent so much on this already but she is a kind forgiving sole (usually).

If you guys don't hear from me after this stuff has arrived it is because my wife either killed me or put me in the dog house for awhile.

I WILL make a CEF contact one of these days....

Cornbrown I too ordered mine from Copper and am having it tuned and peaked as well. Can you tell me what the output you are getting is. Would like to match mine up with a nice base amp but without being able to turn down the power I need to make sure the amp can handle whats going into it.

The only thing I had copper do to mine, was turn the dead key down on the radio to a 2watt dead key swinging to 15 watts. I use it to drive a XForce XT40012 base amp.It does not overdrive this amp with exessive swing.I Also set the variable on the XForce to dead key 250watts swinging to a little over 1K watts. I had to find a happy setting with my galaxy desk mike mod setting and the mic gain setting on the radio. My station now walks the dogs and plucks the Ducks. I am also going to pick up a KLV1000 hoping it will be cleaner than the XForce. My Texas Ranger My XForce

very VERY NICE

Anyone know if I can modify this unit so it will have variable power via a front control knob? If so, is this something I can do or should I have an experienced tech do it? Would Copper? Think they may have already shipped it though....

Did anyone here have to apply for a permit before putting up your antenna. I was told I had to apply for one after I put mine up.... Sheees what a bummer and a hassle!!! The neighbors complained to the county about mine being too big, too high and too close to their property line and now I have to relocate my antenna. This stinks. I guess I should have done my homework before I did all that work to errect my antenna!!!

I have heard of such things. I had a few complaints from my neighbors and am relocating my antenna in an effort to keep everyone happy.

My buddy lives in a home owners association that will not allow for antennas but you can have a flag pole in your front yard.

They make a flag pole antenna, he has purchased it. I am anxious to see how well it works.

I think I will review the codes here again although last time I tried I did not have any luck finding anything specific on it.

Wish you luck with your situation and sure hope it works out for you with no signal loss.

Cornbrown,

Troublemaker is talking about the Compression Desk Microphone that Copper Electronics will be coming out with shortly.

Troublemaker and Other's who attended the CEF RADIO CLUB MID-WEST REGIONAL GATHERING in Bloomington, IL. this past weekend had a chance to see a Pre Production Model of a Compression Desk Microphone that Copper Electronics is having built to be released for the US Market.

It is a HIGH QUALITY, VERY IMPRESSIVE / VERY NICE LOOKING, PLENTY OF FEATURES, WELL MADE, COMPRESSION DESK MICROPHONE that will work with ALL Radios.

And from the Test Results so far on Ham and CB/Export Radios and everyone seeing it EVERYONE WANTS ONE!

I had one on Display at the CEF Gathering and from 4 or 5 feet away with a plastic bag over the head it was picking up our voices and the needle was swinging on the meter. It is SENSITIVE!

I will keep the Copper Forum Members Updated as more information becomes avialiable on when Copper Electronics will have the 1st Batch of them ready.

Lon,

It better be a BIG batch.

What - no sneak preview picture for the rest of us.

I am putting off ordering a desk mic in hopes this one will be out soon, all that it's supposed to be and reasonably priced.

Ya know, with a few pictures, specifications etc. you could probably pre-sell a bunch of these.

Sounds like something special indeed. May wait before I order an Eagle.

At this time I am unable to give out any further information on it.

I run a DM-452 on my RCI 2995 base and
on my 696f. I'm also interested in trying
one of the new compression mics as soon
as they are avalable.

I'VE HAD MY 696F FOR OVER A YEAR NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS. HAD COPPER PEAK AND TUNE FOR ME. USING AN IMAX-2000 AT 55' TO THE BASE, RG-8U COAX, A DOSEY LIBRA METER AND THE STOCK MIC AND HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD REPORTS ON IT. EXCEPT....THEY SAY IT DOES'NT HAVE MUCH SWING TO IT! MAYBE ONE DAY I'LL GET THAT FIXED. THE AUDIO IS EXTREMELY CLEAR WITH THE STOCK MIC FROM MY REPORTS.

I have had my 696F-SSB for about 2 years and I love it. Sometimes it drifts a little, but the CLARIFIER takes care of that. I use an RK56 mic on mine. I can't wait until the weather gets a little warmer here around Chicago so I can put my A99 back up.
I also have the Texas Ranger 296DX mobile radio and that is an excellent radio as well. I was just on the Southern Great Lakes Monday night NET and got very good reports.
