I know this is an odd one, but my buddy has a 2000GTL that I just wired a D104 to last week. He just got a Realistic power desk mic that he wants to run instead now (go figure..). Anyway, the Cobra plug has 5 pins, while the Realistic mic only has 4 wires. Obviously not enough to go around! I'm guessing that since the Realistic mic doesn't have a common switching wire, they must be using the shield for the common as well. My gut is telling me that I will connect the shield to #4 terminal on the plug to serve as the common, and I'll leave the #2 pin (normally shield) empty. Does that sound right? Or should I connect a jumper between 2 & 4 to tie them together? Unfortunately I don't have the radio here to test with, and I'd hate to send it home and be wrong and he has to bring it back (20 mile round-trip). Thanks for any help!

The shield would go on pin 2 and leave pin 4 no connection, with a four wire microphone on the Cobra 2000 and like radios. Also no jumper will be needed between pins 2 and 4. The only time you would use pin 4 is with a microphone such as the Astatic Eagle series that has a third set of switches for transmit and receive with a common wire such as the blue wire on the Eagle series and TUG-9. A five wire stock microphone would use pin 4 as the switching common and not the shield. With the Cobra 2000-GTL and like radios the shield will always go on pin 2. Hope this is of some help. |
