Grumpy,

Sorry I can't help on this one as I have never owned or used one and do not know of anyone who has one.

I have a friend with an Iota 90amp supply. Its one of the light weight switching types. Works fine if you keep the RF out of it. Its very sensitive compared to older types that use transformers.

know of 1 used to operate a dx1600 & has had no problems, they actually seem to have less hash problems then the astron & mfj switchers. list price being $600 they should have some good filtering...samlex has a 100 amper that i have heard good things about as well

I bought 2 iota 75 amp power supplies. And all im running is a rci 2950 and a xforce 600 with a wilson 5000, im still waiting on my v58 to get here. And the power supplies can bearly run the amp. If the mod knob is more than half or rf power is not all the way to the left, the power supplies start skuiking, the fans from the amp slow down, and the fans from the power supplies start twitching. Does anyone know why this is happening?

The only good thing i see right know about the power supplies is that there very light and the fans are very quiet.

when i made my post in october, i did know & see 1 iota 90 amp in use, & it seemed alright. i have since HEARD the SAME that you report-NO GOOD. my email discussion with the gentleman from the e*auction did NOT calm my fears. i have decided against purchasing one. they are very light because they are 'switching' supplies & do NOT use that big 35 pound transformer that a normal supply uses.

So what kind of power supply should i get? They have one on the e*auction, rated at 80 amps 100 pep. 7583306515. It looks like a no namer. Im trying to run a RCI 2950 and a mobil Xforce 600. Is this impossible?

your best bet is a 'regular' power supply for the radio, astron, pyramid, tripp lite, etc-of course getting one of sufficient amp rating, i'd say AT LEAST 30. that way, should you decide to ever upgrade to a 2970, you'll be ready. for the xforce, a supply built BY xforce is what you need! or built by fatboy, or another 'designed-for-custom-amps' power supply. with one of 'those type' of supplies, your xforce will probably see 25-50% MORE PEP, or MORE, then when running 13 volts in a mobile. those supplies float at 17-18 volts or MORE! not good for anything OTHER then a custom amp that will handle the volts. don't hook the 2950 to it!

Can i hook up the 2 iota's in series to see if it makes a difference to power up the amp, or you think it will fry it?

We'll i think i was mistaken, I saw "Slowhand's" post on this same page. I was confusing the noise it makes, i tought that the power supplies can't push it, but they can, its just that the rf gets in it, that's why they sound like mice. When i hooked up the echo i realized this. How can i prevent that, getting it far from the radio or the amp?

I take it your using the Wilson 5000 as a base antenna. I would use a real base antenna like the Imax or Maco. If that Wilson 5000 is right next to you when your talking with the x force on then the rf in the power supplys is the least of your worrys! Get the antenna as far away from the radio and amp and for goodness sake YOURSELF!

I guess so. 2 power supplys 75 amps each. With the cost of the amp and supplys he could get one heck of a base amp!
Its what is next for me! Unless I found one killer deal on a mobile amp I could get that Skywalker power supply. 150 AMPS!!!! BOO YEAH!!!lol......but something run on a 220 outlet sounds nice on the other hand! Use the extra scratch for a nice easy chair for the radio room.

Well the iota power supplies in parallel CAN run the X600 after all. I took off the echo, im using the stock mike and it works alot better, i can still hear myself a little on the PS's but it doesn't sound nothing like before, the lights don't dim or nothing, but now i have no echo.

Another dumb thing i did was i didn't look at the power settings on the 2950, i had it on max and i keyed it like 5 times. DO YOU THINK THIS MIGHT HAVE HURT THE X600???

I get my v/58 and coax this week, hopefully after i mount that, and ground it, the rf will stop completly.

But im expecting new problems like tvi and other fun stuff.
