Does the frequency counter for (Magnum)S3200-B count frequency while not transmitting?

How impossible is it to wire one into a magnum 257 so I can get that last digit? It's funny when people say, WOW that's a great sounding radio, am I on freq? And I have to say "dunno, but you are clarified" :-)
