davemade, xforce/magnaforce/fatboy. if you play, you could probably get 1 of their 2 x 2879's to work satisfactorily with the magnums. the 4 x 2879's are better. while a texas star dx 667 is NOT worth the effort to make work with the magnums, the 5 pill customs WILL work, but you MUST keep dead key LOW & back off mic gain a LOT to get swing under 35 or even 30 watts.

basically, for the best & easiest match, you're looking in the $350 price range....

chainsawiniowa along with a couple others had EXCELLENT results using S9 & texas star dx1600...

say hey, i use the s9's on a 2x6 xforce on base and a 1x4 megaforce mobil with excellent results.
no trouble in the 6 months plus that they have been used in this set up!! just an example of use's of the s9's..

the 2 x 6 xforce puts you in the same boat as a 1 x 4 xforce. the dead key & swing still needs to be low. while the 2 2290's will handle 5 or 6 watts key & plenty of swing to THEM, what they do to the 6 2879's is why the INPUT cannot be too high.

did you mean magna force? didn't know he made 1 x 4. since it's geared towards SSB, they leave out the driver in the 4 pill boxes.

no doubt, with a bit of caution, the S9 probably makes the 2 x 6 scream past 1200 watts PEP . 400 watts dead key is nothing to sneeze at either.

ok, on my palstar 2000 meter on peak, with the xforce power supply, the s9 dks the 2x6 at 450 and shows peak at 2400 watts!!! this is with the p/s holding at 18 volts!! this also showed on my bird peak meter!! the 1x4 was special made to the 1x4 and put in the red box for me, keeping the b biais!! the s9 in the mobil, on the same meter that i use in the house, shows a dk of 200, and peaks at 800!! on both antenna systems, the swr is 1.1 to 1 or lower at power!! this is what im getting for output, and its been like this for the last 6 months or so!! agin, just trying to show that the s9 is capable of being used on a driven amp if the system is up to par??

you didn't say you were running 18 volts. those 150 amp or bigger power supplies are nice, but you can't run commercial amps, such as texas star, on 'em. the float to 18 will kill 'em. MOST of the customs will handle 18+. the 200/800 is just about right on 12 volts.
the 1x4 customs WILL take most of the swing of the S9. my 4 pill does about 100 watts PEP LESS then my 5 pill on the grant XL. on the S9 the difference is even less. a dx667 texas star will start spitting fire & smoke with 40 watts being pumped into it.

i realize that the power supply cant be used on commerical made amps!! i think that there sold with the idea of using them on the bigger pill amps of xforce?? like for the 2x6, and 2x8!! the 2x6 at taht voltage draws 150 amps and the 2x8 draws 180 amps which that p/s is suspose to be able to provide?? my understanding of the p/s is about 17 to 18 volts for the 2x6 and 16 to 17 volts for the 2x8?? at least the one i have does this!! any way thats all i use it on is the 2x6 xforce.. tried a magaforce 4 pill?? smoke there was.. ask why and was told no more then 16 volts into them, so had my 2x6 made with ssb delay in it
back off on the modulation and it does a nice job, all who ive talked to daid it was clean?? ok, thanks to all the input..

that's what the EXTERNAL adjustments are there for

hook up a watt meter after the amp. with the rf power knob set fully to the LEFT & the mic gain around 9 o'clock, push the power switch on the amp 'ON'. watch the wattmeter & adjust the S6 rf power knob UP til the wattmeter says about 150-175 watts dead key. assuming you're using a peak reading meter, turn the mic gain UP til you see about 400-450 watts PEP OR stop turning mic gain up when the watts STOP GOING UP, whichever comes 1st. then go get a radio check
