Hi I have read somewhere before that you can replace the receive diodes with Schottky diodes (1N5817/ECG - NTE583 . I was wondering what what number the diodes are so I could do this and if anyone on here has done this before ? What were your results?

in a 148gtl, the diodes to replace are D1,D2,D21, and D22. (no typos here, i double checked)

also, if you are going to do this mod, do yourself a big favor and replace TR14 (Q14) with an NTE107 or 2SC2999 (equivilent). this will give qa 6db increase in your signal to noise ratio. you will notice a big difference; its one of my favorite mods! after you replace TR14, use the stock transistor you took from TR14's spot, and put it in place of TR19. TR19 is a 2SC945 stock.
TR14 is a 2SC1674 stock.
the TR14 change is for AM
the TR19 change is for SSB.
you will love these mods, and they are tried and true.
if you do it right they will work great!
good luck,
matt

A 148 not having as good of ears as a 44V?

Break one-nine for a reality check.

Dude, your 148 isn't aligned properly. The 44V has nowhere NEAR the receive of a 148.

should work on any radio that uses germanium diodes in the detector and NB circuits. (im pretty sure that the mods for the 2950 are very close to the 2985. not completely sure though)

bruce, watch that typing finger! the transistor is 2SC2999.
he must've been very happy when he was typing. LOL
did you ever get my reply to your email bruce?
