This is kind of a 4 part question about this amp, I have a guy that is willing to sell me his KLV-1000 for $300.00, but it needs four tubes. One was just replaced but still needs the 4 "output tubes"

Is this a good buy for $300.00? I may be able to talk him down a bit lower.

How much will the 4 EL-519 tubes cost me, and where can I get them?

How hard is it to install the tubes as I have never dealt with them at all?

What would cause all the tubes to go bad? Is it likely to happen again?

Are you sure the problem is just the tubes. What caused the tubes to blow??? .... I would be very careful.... Copper sells the tubes here http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodW90-00400+.

Man those tubes are puny!Comparing the cost of new to his and new tubes,I'd say forget it,he probably fried the internals and it will probably cost more than new to repair it or he just wants a davemade so bad hes salivating.Bigbob

I do know this guy fairly well and talked to him about it today, he is willing to let me buy the tubes and use the amp, with out buying the amp from him until I can verify that the tubes do not go out again. He also told me that if the tubes go out again he would pay me back the cost of the tubes. Copper sells this amp for $659.99, I could have it for a total of about $400.00 if it works. Also with him letting me take the amp I can go have it checked out by a tech and make sure nothing else is wrong with it before I stick the tubes in.

if you put the tubes in yourself be very very careful, if the Amp isn't discharge and you touch the wrong thing you get a bite of your life if not your life...
So becareful!
Better yet let the tech put them in for you!
