I have my Texas Star DX500 mounted overhead in my Jeep. It is about 10-12 inches from my head. Do you think this is too close with the RF and my brain, or do you feel it's too late from reading some of my post. Serious comments please!
While on this subject. The base station with my new amp i.e.DM M-400 Base Unit is there any distance from other equipment rules?
I've never concerned myself with any of this before, but this time I am wanting to set up the equip. by the book, if there was a book?

I've heard many debates about RF exposure. It's one of the things you are suppose to learn when trying to get your Tech ticket in HAM radio.
Of course, I don't really remember much about it, except there is a maximum exposure limit. I personally seriously doubt it's too close. And I haven't read your other post.
As far as distance from other equipment, if it's not causing interferrence to other equipment, then I wouldn't worry about how close/far away it was.

It's not the box you need to so much worry about, it's the antenna. |

You'll just need to be careful if you go four-wheel'n as to not knock yur noggin on it.  then it could cause drain bamage.

The antenna is on the back of the Jeep and it's a top load. I was trying to find a reason why I had no short term memory,hmmm what was I writing about? Oh Well maybe I'll remember?

10 inches from your head? I would be more wourried about a big bump in the road and sharp edges on the heat sink. |

I don't have that problem with the heat sink. I have it it already a couple of times so the fins are bent over, and now when my head hits it,it just slides over it. I was thinking of putting a little ox-guard on the bent over fins since my head and the fins are dissimilar metals, it will also help my head slide accross them.

Think about some LOW LOSS Coax if it concerns you...that is where any "in cabin" RF leakage will come from as well as static leakage "INTO" your recieve.
Have the antenna as high as possible...if you can turn around and see it then it radiates at you and your dash. Pick up a football helmet and cover it in alum foil...you'll be fine. |
