I guy could really go wacky trying to decide which new radio to buy. Let me try it this way. Here is what I have:

1. Texas Star 250 HDV
2. D104 M6C
3. Wilson 5000 Mag mount.

What's missing? You guessed where I am going with this. I am looking to buy a mobile radio, either a 11 meter radio with extra frequencies or an Export with 11 meters. I don't want cheap or Junk. I am after quality AUDIO and quality Receive. The next question is where do I send it for mods. Any and all help would be appreciated. I know this question has been asked a dozen times.

to use that texas star 250hdv, you need to limit yourself to a 'dual final', or single final only, type of radio. that amp will actually see fairly close to the same output with either type of radio, & may still 'sound better' with the input from a dual final radio backed down. one exception is the magnum 'topgun' radios. you MIGHT be able to make that amp work with one, but don't bet on it.

was that a DIPLOMATIC enough reply?

You want extra channels but how about ssb? Assuming you do I'd look for an older 148GTL or GrantXL. I see Superstar has a 148 model now that is a copy of the other 148/XL copies like the Sherman and tr296. Should do you well and a simple mod will get you some channels. Hard to beat the talk power of that chassis. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. IF you can hold out (doubt it :-)) I'd bet the new Magnum257 would be all you could ask for.....love the MAGNUM radios but like Pat says the modulator feature might be a bit too much for the DX250.....257 is 30w PEP and should do great things with that kicker!

A regular 11 meter single final radio like a Galaxy 959 is easily modded for extra freqs and will work and sound awsome with your Texas Star 250 Wilson antenna and d104 which you may want to go noise canceling mic for the road. It will be a good setup.
Now most and almost all exports come with daul finals and that creates a problem because of your Texas Star 250. Just a bit too much radio for that amp unless you really baby up the radios power. Nevermind the letters HDV on the amp! You would know the difference after you see how hot the amp gets.
As for mods? Just look for a reputable tech in your area or do them yourself. Some can be very easy.
