Got word today that my base (galaxy saturn turbo) is on it's way back from ***********, also that two additions to the shack have shipped and that the KLV is ready for pickup.

Have the new coax just need to run it and then re-tune the Maco V-5000 (going for a perfect match and will not short cut this this step even if it means it stand at 10' in the wood stand for a week while trying to get it dialed in).

And Then, And Then - I will be cruising the airways once again and COMING TO A CEF NET SUNDAY NEAR YOU SOON. Hopefully in about 2 or 3 weeks folks. OK, maybe not near you but will hopefully be able to reach you.

Although we do have the NEW ham Starface and the new BIG SHERIFF WildRat in town & controlling the Sand Pile so it won't be easy on me by any means.

Hope to talk to you all soon.

CEF-634
Tim

Well I've seen that Big Box with the Cobra on it that WildRat has so it won't be me but I definitely should not be off frequency. Starface seems to be perfectly located where I am in kind of a dead spot but the point is I will be BACK ON THE AIR & some of you WILL HEAR ME for sure.

Found out more about these locals shutting the channels down. Seems they are the local young drug lords so to speak and have more money than they know what to do with. Heard three of them are pushing 3.5KW and 2 of them are doing 5KW so needless to say I can't even compete against that, luckily they leave me alone.

Still need to send in the Cobra 2000GTL but am honestly considering if it will be worth the money to do so. I don't know a lot but can tell it was worked by a legend in his own mind no doubt, to bad he didn't know what he was really doing.

Anyway, once this base is set up it stays how it is for awhile (except for maybe the Cobra 2000 GTL)so I can get my mobiles running. Hoping the new S-9 175 watt version will be out soon at a reasonable price - It should drive a straight 6 or 8 pill don't you think???

Fishing is still my first love and where most my toys are and money goes. Don't care much about winning other than I hope when my time comes I get to spend it with the big guy upstairs.

SEARCH some old posts on this forum, notes about BIG BOYS & how rough some play-fights, shootings, robberies...all in the name of who's got the most power. 5kw is childs play for some.

but as i've told ya before tim, it don't take anywhere near 5kw to 'announce your presence with authority'. efficiency is the name of the game .

as for the 175 watter driving an 8 pill...ummmm, was in the shack after reading 808's post on the 80 watter & that the 175 watter isn't far behind, & i've already polished up the 8 & kick started the 175-watt-S9-fund. just gotta grab a few more optima batteries & search the web for the alternator i need . the answer to your query-YES!!!

Yeah I hear there is a guy who runs 250,000 watts out of his mobile. I have no idea if that is true or not but guess some of those guys do pack a lot of punch.

Oh, I heard you loud and clear about efficiency, low loss and rejection and am working all on all these things. Wish I had you as a neighbor so you could check some of my stuff.

I am doing an entire new ground work for my truck and will try using #4 wire for power. If I'm gonna throw an 8 pill in the mix guess I better check into batteries and alternators as well. What will an 8 pill do anyway? - About 1.5 or so??? Oh, & I don't think that Wilson 1000 will work will it??? Gotta upgrade the coax as well huh???

Hay you guys love this last night here in Maryland on 31 AM some guy was riding all over
the place looking for someone keying down on him.
Well it was two highpower mobiles they past each
other a few times but not on the same block. So
this went on and on by the way one had big truck 4by4 and setting off car alarms house alarms over
and over then the guy with the truck see's the other guy whats he do make a u turn in someones
frontlawn . Well both were spoted running around
and someone saw the truck go into the lawn .
Well Scanning also John Q Law came out in force
like 8 cars and picked up the Big Boys and took
the Toys too! Hear this one house alarm was set off like 12 times over a 4 hour time span. Also
on the scanner found out 24 Phone calls made about them running around.

most i've ever seen was 50kw(mobile), my sunday net local bleedover specialist does 25kw, though with more motor/alternator/battery reserve, it is capable of 50kw+. (listen on ch 6 on sundays for painkiller's 'almighty gmc suburban', have yet to hear ANY locals key over him) have heard of 70kw+ mobile, but never seen it. biggest base i've ever seen was 10kw.

8 pill texas star will break 1kw, on a good day. 8 pill custom with mild alternator/batteries on 12v should hold a key of 400-500 & swing 1600, give or take. (remember the 150 watt driver box/S9 175 watt radio is going to draw another 20+ amps!)

you WILL need rg213 at the LEAST(i always use double shield 9086/9913), a wilson 5000, 5kw skipshooter(fiberglas stick) or some type of metal coil skiptalker antenna, and i'd use #2 or bigger.

you can skimp maybe when you're throwing a 2 pill kl in the mobile for a bit of 'kick'. to set up an 8 pill from radio to antenna, including charge system, $3k is probably a good number to shoot for. you CANNOT afford to skimp. with that kind of money in it, why would you?

the 25kw mobile starts with ONE $2000 tube(4cx15000a or better). plus the cost of the transformers & rest of the amp...the 1 up here has 2 of those tubes in it. THEN add the radio, driver box, rg218 coax at about $5 per foot & connectors, DEFINITELY an engine rebuild-4000rpms while keying causes heck with tired motors, 6 alternators, at least-rebuilts at $500 a pop or more, 6-12 $180 optima batteries, a home equity loan...

I've heard of people dying from cancer operating such high power rigs so close to their bodies.

ghostrider's from florida

while it IS a proven FACT that exposure to high RF fields CAN BE HARMFUL, the ONLY people i have ever heard of actually DYING from 'operating such high power rigs' were ELECTROCUTED. it IS specifically stated in the ARRL general class manual that 'None of the research to date conclusively proves that low-level EMR causes adverse health effects.....' continue on to '...In conclusion, the data do not support the finding that exposure to RF fields is a casual agent for any type of cancer...'. rather then quote several pages, it can be read at ones leisure. in the same gist as feeding a rat 1 pound of 'sweet & low' & it dies of cancer-maybe, maybe not. while other effects are certain, cancer apparently is not one of them.

a couple questions on the FCC GENERAL class examination concerning themselves with RF exposure are G0D07 and G0D10. the FCC says that a directional antenna aimed AWAY from people as well as the metal roof of your vehicle HELPS to keep radiation away from people. are these perfect solutions with 50KW??? i DO NOT KNOW as I PERSONALLY have never checked with a field strength meter. can driving I-95 at 75 miles per hour kill me? yes. and there are many who do that more frequently then keying a 50kw xmtr. and live to tell about it.

Al lafon - That is some crazy stuff for sure. Things don't usually get that exciting around here. Not a lot of folks on the radio here either. Even the truckers don't talk to much as the local hoods here just get on and give them a bad time. Not sure why they leave me alone but they do and hope they continue to. May not be a big boy to Pat but they can wipe me out - I am going for an ultra clean install right now with as little reflect as possible, then need someone to help me get the mic and mic gain dialed in to be crystal clear - loud is OK but would rather be clean - clean and loud now that would be nice.

So much for that 8 pill idea I can't spend that kind of money nor do I need to start heating up the few remaining brain cells I have left heheehe....

tim, just remember that when it comes to radiating a signal; the rule is the same as for real estate:
ANTENNA, ANTENNA, ANTENNA!

those guys with 5K may be able to produce a good signal, but they are still using a mobile antenna, and a mobile antenna that is only maybe 8 feet off the ground is not going to get out as well as your 5/8 wave antenna 40+ feet in the air.

unless those boys drive up onto a hill within 10 miles of your house, you can turn on the KLV 1000 and put them to shame.

there is a guy here by the name of "big motor" who runs 5K out of his mobile.
he hits me at 30+ when he is up on the hill by the truckstop. (about 7 miles from me)
but when he drives away and is talking from the freeway and gets about 20 miles away he hits me with an S-7.
the guy with stacked moonraker fours on a 60 foot tower 30 miles from me hits me with +10 every day.
(i dont know how many watts he's running)
just some perspective,
matt
