Is there a standard color code for mic wiring, say like there is for AC work, or electrical work. I do notice that pin one is usually shield, and white is audio, and receive is black. Or is it just pretty much what ever the manufactures use for there brand. Mark CEF674 |

Wildrat, Sorry, but there is NO Standard Color Code for the wires used in the many diferent makes/models of microphones. Generally there is a somewhat standard of Cobra/Uniden Pin-Out for 4 and 5 pin mics. 4-Pin Mics PIN #1 ~ SHIELD PIN #2 ~ AUDIO PIN #3 ~ TRANSMIT PIN #4 ~ RECEIVE 5 Pin Mics PIN #1 ~ AUDIO PIN #2 ~ SHIELD PIN #3 ~ RECEIVE PIN #4 ~ Sw. Wire PIN #5 ~ TRANSMIT BUT! This is not always the case as many different radios have MAJOR differences in wiring that if wired incorrectly can make your radio go POOF instantly if wired incorrectly. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

Color codes are not always reliable so I don't pay attention to them. People change microphone cables and custom wire mic jacks so they can use their microphones on all of their radios. You can wire any microphone to any CB if you know how to use a VOM and a clip lead to check the pin function of both the radio and microphone. This book tells how to do just that: http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodBKS-00020+ |

Have you read the section on microphone wiring? It's pretty good stuff. |
