I have a Johnson 4 wire desk mic non amplified and wired it up to my RCI. Tramnsmits and rx's but no audio. Cord is fine and no breaks. Is it because the mic element wont work with newer radios? |

Fixed it and was mic element. I installed one out of a uniden mic and fits, works perfect. Thanks for help anyway. |

That element that came out of it is probably just fine...but is high impedance (10,000z) for a tube type rig, such as the Johnson Messenger 223. Don't throw it away. Hang on to it. 600z elements are pretty much the standard for all the modern, solid state rigs. |

Thanks Rldrake. That would explain it. It was driving me nuts! Simple circuit and simple wiring but did not work until I changed element! I wanted to keep that nostalgic look. I did keep the element and put in ziplock bag for safe storage. Looks to be in good shape. |

Even in a severe mismatch situation there would still be some audio. Usually the bass is lost and the microphone sounds tinny and thin. I'd guess the element was damaged. Crystal elements are fragile and are damamged by heat and shock. It could have been dropped or in an attic where the temperature was too hot. |
