I have a Connex 4800 dxl matched up to a Texas Star 500V for a base as of now. I wanna go base amp and a little bigger. The custom amps are mostly class C and not really suitable for SSB as I'm told. Heard good things about KLV 1000's. Can my 4800 drive the 1000 or the 1000p? 2 watt dead key 30 something swing, maybe 40 swing. I'm afraid it's to little for the 1000p and to big for the 1000. Any ideals or suggestions? Looking for the ONE amp to put an end to my looking at amps!

You'd be better off putting the money into an antenna.

Rldrake, Yeak I know. Currently I have an Imax 2000. Would love a small beam maybe a Maco but where I'm living now its not an option. Just no room. Too many trees, power lines and neighbors complaining already. Gonna stick with what I have now and maybe upgrade the mobile.

You won't gain anything but heartache from the KL1000. Stick with the DX500. Output will be the same. The new KLV's drop off 30% after a couple of QSO's.

wrong, wrong, wrong!! as far as the klv 1000 amps go, me and a friend have both the 4 and 5 tube models, and there going on 4 + years with no drop in performance of any kind!! if one is to overdrive these amps, i can see them losing as would anyother amp thats abused!!just had to put my nickles worth in here?? in the past 4 to 6 years, ive had, have or used all the base amps that klv made or are still making!! as far as my opinion, for the money, there some of the best amps ive personally used in the many, many years ive been in the cb radio !!! again my personal opinion..

I've done my homework on the klv1000's and from what I have found is that they are solid and tough to beat for the money. Not like an Ameritron but close. Some owners have replaced the tubes with the russian sevelta tubes for increased performance. My next base radio will be capable of operating a KLV1000. Until then its time to do homework on some base radio options. Maybe RCI2985\95? Maybe wait for the new magnum S9? I see dollars signs in my dreams just not in my pocket.

I currently run a KLV 1000, with a Texas Ranger 696FSSB base radio. It is almost a year with no problems super clean output I am seeing this bad boy swing to 800+ watts on AM.My meter might be a little generous, but if i remember well... the watt meter on the KLV also swings the same. I used to run a transister box on the base but it had to go. Love the KLV1000 with it's three power settings and pre amp that actually works. On low where I keep mine it swings to a little over 300 watts. when I need "Mo Tube Heat Powa" I can flip a few switches to get more. When the time comes I will be upgrading to russian tubes
