Wildrat. There is a place online that has the schematic for $10 and the manual in pdf format for free. I can't place the link here because they also sell radio equipment, but e-mail me if you want the link. (your e-mail address is hidden)

I think I still have the complete info on the mark3 as well as the schematics. Let me know what you need and I will try to scan some of it and send it to you.

anybody know how to turn the modulation down on the mark III? If I key it up and make the slightest noise ..it slams the meter way past the red zone...this happens with a unamplifided and a amplified mic... there's three tuning pots in the transmitter...T4 R38 and R4 does any of these have anything to do with modulation? Also here's a manual Wildrat.. http://www.cbgazette.com/pdf/MARKMAN.pdf

I guess you're talking about the modulation meter on the radio that slams the red zone.
How does the radio sound, is it over modulated?
R38 is the AM modulation adjustment but if it sounds ok I would hate to turn it down much. It's hard to to keep the modulation meter on the Mark III from slamming the wall and there's no adjustment for it that I know of. I just run my meter on the swr setting to keep it from slamming over.

the radio checks come back saying the radio's modulation sounds pinchy ..trebely...no base..but yet according to the meter it slams the thing... if you so much as whisper into it from 2 foot away. it's pegging the meter..this does it with a amplified mic or un amplified mic...

The non-amplified mic should work good on that radio. The power d-104's don't work very well sometimes on the Mark III, they will sound tinny. I use a Turner +3 on mine and it matches well.

Sounds like the modulation might be turned wide open in your radio. I would try turning R38 all the way down and then bring it up until you have good forward swing and it sounds good. Most of the Mark III's have excellent modulation.

Yeah Bobcat, sounds like you need to check some tubes. Could have one with a short or gassed.
What kind of mikes are you using and what kind of output are you seeing.
The Mark III's will generally peak out around 4 watts deadkey, swing about 12 watts unless they've been strapped in someway. If strapped they will show about 7-8 watts keyup and about 15+ watts swing.

upon inspection of wiring ..i found this wire unattached do you know if it gets solderd in on the yellow wire or the resistor side? common sence tells me that it gets soldered in on the yellow side but i may be wrong...and common sence tells me that this has alot to do with my bad modulation ...

Re: inspection of wiring... it's a purple wire with a black stripe that's off at the mic connector.. one side of the two connector points of the mic connection has a yellow wire and the other has a positive side of a sheilded wire going through a resistor solderd into it ...then the purple and black colored wire that's off is solderd into the ground side of the sheilded wire.wondering if this purple and black wire goes to the yellow wire side? ...I tried sending a pic with the last post but it wouldn't take.I would send ya a pic if I knew where to send it.

Bobcat I got the pics. I'll look at mine tomorrow and take a picture to send you. From memory I believe it just had two wires and it uses the plug/case for ground. I know there's voltage on the plug, been shocked by them before, it's about 115 volts too. I've changed mine to a four pin plug wired so my cobra/galaxy mikes will work on it. But we can still tell where the wires connect. Talk to you tomorrow. scrapiron

Any one know if carrier frequency can be adjusted on mark 3? Mine is putting out nice power on am but carrier is 25.300 MHz and
Voice modulation changes it Driving me crazy

Does it read 25.300 on every channel. The Mark III has a crystal for each channel behind the channel selector and they mix with 2 more crystals. Those are under the bottom of the transmitter. You could have a bad one or one loose. Modulation will make most frequency counters jump around.
