I need the wiring codes for 2 HF amateur rigs --- ICOM 725
ICOM 735
he aint sure which of the 2 rigs it is, it is in storage, and he needs both radios wiring codes. It is a 4 pin mike ( relatively simple ) and and he remembers when he was younger that the rigs would recieve without the mikes being plugged in and listening to HF shortwave stations at night.
I tried the ICOM web site, but all I could find was information on the current hf rigs and all of them are 8 pin or some other kind of plug...so I need your help.
I dont even know if these rigs are with digital readout or the old analog tuning, so far as how new they are, but he asked me to help him and so I am trying.

Both rigs are relatively new...around 10 to 20 years old. Both have LCD frequency display and both have the WARC bands. Both use the present day 8-pin mic connectors and electret-condensor mics.
You must be confused on the model number if it has the old 4 pin mic.
Virtually all amateur transceivers receive without the microphone plugged in. |

I am just going by what I was TOLD...I dont actually have the rig IN FRONT of me. |

I have the pin out for the IC-735, and guessing the IC-725 would be the same.
Just need to know what microphone your friend is wanting to wire, both transceivers are indeed the standard 8 pin microphone jack.

ALERT....ALERT...ALERT
Before your friend goes messing around with mics or the 8-pin Foster connector on the rig...make sure he is very well aware of the DANGER to the 8 volt, phanthom power on 2 of those icom pins.
If he overloads, or shorts, them...he is in for a very expensive repair ! |

pin 1: Mic Input (Audio) (usually white or yellow)
pin 2: +8 volts DC (DO NOT GROUND THIS PIN!!!) It Can power some Mics very well, you"ll need to assign 2 wires if available or run 2 (use something OTHER than Red or Yellow) To the accessory
pin3:Frequency up/down
pin4: Main readout squelch (not used on most after market mics)
pin5: PTT (Key up)
pin6:PTT ground (Some Mics work in reverse, 5/6 inverted)
pin7:Audio Shield (usually Braided wire over the audio in wire)
pin8 Main readout AF Output (Good audio source if wiring a headset)
If you are not soldering a ICOM Microphone and have no intention of using the 8 volts for power, I suggest CUTTING OFF the solder lead inside the mic plug and coating the remainder with some sort of insulation like silicone or even a few heavy coats of nail polish. If you are using the Hunt and key method with alligator clips or even bare leads, I have seen more than one rig smoke the voltage regulation because they grounded against the pin2.

I have a Icom IC-730 with no mic.. I have a older Turner CS-1 and a older Motorola desk mic with 6 wires. Please I need help wiring these mic's up. I can not find any info on the inter-web. Any help would bo of great help. Thank you |
