as far as i can see, there are two generations of that chassis. really no way to tell from the outside of the radio which one you have. the first generation comes with a little tiny black jumper connector (i hear its in the bag with the mic holder) and you plug it into the two pins on the right hand side. there are three sticking out right behind the display. if you do a search on the net for "2950DX mods" you will probably find pics to show you how to do it. the 2985DX is the base version of the 2950DX, same radio on the inside.
if you have the second version, you have to buy some sort of "e-chip" for it, and wire it in. also probably instructions on the net.
good luck,
matt

I did`nt buy one yet but am going to next week from copper.I would think that it is the newer one but I have been posting all over this forum for info but your the only one that answered.

I would think that copper would know this info and give it to me. I want this radio but only have the money for radio and shipping so I need to expand myself.

Thanks for the info you gave me Kid Vicious,
AP

I wouldn't buy it until you have enough $
to at least get it aligned by copper.
I don't care much for factory aligned radios.
They seem to only ball park them at times.
Just my opinion...

Thanks RW, I just got an idea how to come up with the rest of the money so I will get copper to do the expand and alignment.

I heard there is a commen problem with the meters on the 2985dx/2995dx and the other RCI bases that is they dont work properly.

Have you heard this and how does your 2995 meters work?

If this is true then why dont RCI fix the problem?

I never owned a 2985dx, so, i know nothing
about the meters on that certain radio.
My 2995dx meter works great on AM.
Doesn't respond correctly on SSB, but, i just
do not worry about it as radio itself works
good. Mine is 2 years old. I know nothing about the newer models. Good Luck and i wouldn't
worry to much about it.

Airplane! Let Copper do it for you! Then you won't void the warranty if you do it yourself! Even if you gotta wait a little longer for the extra chaching! Its worth the wait.
