I put three ERF-2030's in a General Lee dx. On a Dosy 1000 I get 80 watts. TR-44 the driver had 13+ volts with the 2166 at the collector. The 2030 drain voltage is only 7 volts should it be higer.

Lon,
Quick question for you.
I have 2 Magnum 257's (both from Copper) one Amber display purchased about a year before the Blue displays came out, and the other is a Blue display. What would these ERF-2030's do for my radios if I wanted to say "change" the radios to have these finals in it? Would it be worth it cost wise and performance wise? Or should I just leave well enough alone and be happy with it? Oh yea and can Copper do the mod?
What do ya think Sir??

Tomcatinva,

Sorry I cannot say as I have never done it and Sam said he is waiting for the 1st batch of the 257's to arrive so he can do the ERF 2030 conversion to a few of them.

Then the 2nd batch will all be powered by the ERF-2030's.

Sorry again but the Copper Tech does not do outside radio/repair work for the public so you would need to find a tech near you or do the mod yourself when it becomes availiable.

Not a problem Lon, I was just sitting here reading posts and I thought I'd ask. I will just wait and read the reviews when the 257's come in. Sometimes I tend to get a head of myself. I get myself into trouble a lot when I do that...
Thanks Again...

a 2sc1969 is rated for 22 watts. those 3 watts won't make a bit of difference. even at the slightly higher suggested voltage of the erf2030, 8 watts won't make a difference either. on a test radio-go for it. on a radio with blown finals-go for it. just to change a good working radio for 3 or 6 more watts-why take the chance. some of these conversions seem to go flawlessly. others just don't seem to work at all.

I did the conversion on a uniden pc 68 just to see if I could get anywhere near the 40 watts that people have claimed to achieve. With the stock final I got about 17 watts, with the new final I get about 28 watts with a whistle.
Maybe I should have pulled out the ol' "Golden Screwdriver", pulled the mod limiter and spread come coils apart.
I think it's a decent mod if you do it your self, a guy recently told me about a cb shop that did his and charged him $50. He was pleased with it, but maybe i'm just a tight-wad??????

Moonraker,

If you are getting 28 watts on a PC68 that is good since it is rated at 25 watts.

Did you use the additional driver component part's needed with it or just swap it out?

I installed the 2030 final and the proper companion part. I tried the mod with and without the 68pf cap and found it to be better without it. The radio still has the stock driver. If I turn the super swing on it goes from a 4 watt key swinging 28 to a half watt key swinging 30. I fighred the other 2 watts were only trash. I didn't clip the mod limiter and wouldn't have put the swing kit in, but if I sell it some people like them and if I keep it...thats why I put an off switch on it.

Moonraker

I also did the 2030 mod to my PC68XL and when I have it hooked up just to my meter it DK at 3 and swings 12. When I add my kicker in the mix it DK 4 and swings about 28, this is with the kicker off. Why is this? It also does this in the mobile. Low swing with just the meter in line and high swing with the kicker in line and the kicker off. With the kicker on in the mobile it swings good, the base kicker swings good also. My radio works the same with and with out the extra capacitor.
