after checking out the available 2 meter only FM radios, reading about different problems in the available user reviews on some Ham boards, I've decided on the IC-2200h. so I now have a couple of questions. I read that the UT-115 digital board for the radio never made it to market and was sutpassed by the UT-118? also, a couple of years ago, I was invited to a "Club" meeting where they demonstrated a packet setup using a handheld with a gps and laptop. will I be able to do this with this radio? the funky mike connector has me a little worried about being able to hook stuff up.

What you are talking about is APRS and yes any two meter radio can be used for it.

I think, I have an early version of the software for it. If your interested I'll find it and email it to you.

As for the funky mic connector (not sure what type it is) one way around that is to use the existing mic cord to create a connection box. On the box you can have a switch and two or three 4 or 8 pin mic sockets wire up and switch between. Now get or wire the exising mike to fit the sockets on the box.

You now have a couple of sockets that you can use to go to your packet TNC or computer for PSK, SSTV or whatever.
