I use HT's a lot and have a number of them from 10 meters to 440 mhz. Left to right ( frount row ) ( 1970) Standard 2 meter 5 ch 1 watt ht, ( 2006 )Vx-2 yaesu, (2000) radio shack HTX-420

Back row (2000)Spitfire 454 10 meter all mode, Cobra 40 ch ht

The size of the Standard 146 was SMALL for 1970 but the Yaesu VX-2 is becomming standard today makes you wonder just how small they will get ....

10-440 hts

well, then it would be like having to get a license to talk on a cell phone.
maybe thats why i dont like VHF; it looks too much like the technology i "have" to use.
all those HT's just look like work radios to me.

99% of HT's are on VHF/UHF using them on HF is rarely done. As for c-phones you DO need a license to talk on them ..... you pay it every month to your provider .....
