I recently aquired a nice Cobra 2000 that is clean and has no mods done except variable power on the tone control. Was wondering whether modding the clarifer to track on tx as well as rx is something I should do. I've heard that once this is done, that the radio will be prone to being "drifty" and that the clarifier will not line up with the center slot on the clarifier. I currently own 2 Magnum S9's, and I like the way the clarifier works on them. So I guess I would like the Cobra 2000 to work the same if possible. Is there a good clarifier mod for the 2000 that will work well and not cause the radio to drift? Any help/suggestions appreciated. |

I suggest unlocking the clarfier, its a must have, but, I find the 2000 clarifier knobs are very jumpy because of the dual pot. Personally I'd like to change mine to a single pot. I like to "drop" in on people it sounds really cool, but the dual pots make tuning and transmitting horrible. I think a resistor and using the small knob may work. Or maybe my knob (lol) is dirty. I also strongly urge you to do the swing mod requiring you the linearize the final. It's really easy and the radio runs cooler and smoother than stock. Also with the tone control you can turn the carrier down to 0-14w but I dont advise going to 14w or anywheres near it. 1 watt dead key on am swings to the max you can put out on ssb ! but on am ! |
