When I transmit on SSB, everyone I talk to say's they have to put their clarifier in a totally different position then they do for anyone else? What could be causing this? Could my radio need aligned or is it another possible cause?

was the clarifier 'unlocked'? if yes, it probably doesn't 'center' for '0' freq, but you're putting it there. so everyone needs to tune to you. if you adjust counter to read '0', is all well?

where do you need to tune your radio to understand people? on '0', or .XXX8 or 9, or .XXX1 or 2? if so, it probably could use an alignment as rcv & xmit aren't in the same spot.

worst case scenario is probably an alignement, if you're knowledgable & handy, you could probably make the tweak yourself & get it much closer on xmit....if not, best to find someone to do it for you.

most likely, an alignment will cure the problem.
just dont take it to one of your friends who thinks they can do it. they could really screw up your radio.
take it to someone who has the proper test equipment to do it.
this means at minimum, an RF signal generator, and a frequency counter. (not a frequency display)

IK was sooo expecting something different out of Pat on that one :-)

My 2547 drifts a bit, well, more than a bit. Give it a good long time to warm up and an unlocked clarifier is not bad for sideband work as long as TX and RX are calibrated.

i wonder if people have tried putting a 10 turn pot on a galaxy to help with the drift problem.
my 2000gtl used to drift a bit, and with the 10 turn pot, it is rock solid. (well, for a CB anyway)

Then you'd have to turn and turn and turn and turn and turn and still never be on freq :-)

852 ,is your clarifer unlocked?if it is just tune 2 people ya hear.turn it in both directions
while transmitting see if it changes your transmit any youll need 1 person on other end .but to me sounds like its locked and off frequency then what ya do is set clarifer 2
12 oclock and tune people in with the 6th/last digit.so if your on 273850 and people say your off go 2 273849 and they will tell ya either went wrong direction or need to keep going same direction ,or perfect.if they say its better but not perfect go 2 273848 and so on.if they say going wrong direction then return to 273850 and key up tell them back 2 normal position then go 2 273851 and so on.until they say ya sound good
then fine tune them with clarifer.if clarifer is locked what i was doing is basically the same as having an unlocked clarifer .but if your clarifer is unlocked then ya shouldnt have to change it on freq.read out.sorry about this long post but i run ssb daily and run into these kinda problems and this is the soluation ive done works perfect

I talked the the place the radio came from, they said the clarifier has never been unlocked. With clarifier set in 12o'clock position, my freq. counter on the radio reads USB 27.205. LSB 27.2053

counters arent always right.tune to the other people shouldnt have any problems then.the clarifer doesnt need unlocked cause im pretty sure it has course and fine.if it does use the course knob to tune in everyone while leaving fine outer knob at center.once this is done use the fine to fine tune everyone if needed.thren see what your counter says.hope this helps

The 2547 only has one clarifier, it doesn't have coarse and fine.
