HELLO ALL....INSTALLED MY NEW MAGNUM IN MY 05 MONTE CARLO....I AM GETTING THE POWER FROM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. ON SOME CHANNELS WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING,I GET A CARRIER OF S-9,OTHER CHANNELS NOT,VERY CLEAR....WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF,ALL THE CHANNELS ARE CLEAR,NO CARRIERS. IS THER ANY KIND OF A FILTER I CAN USE OR IS THE PROBLEM THAT I AM GETTING THE POWER FROM THE CIGARETTE INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE BATTERY? PLEASE HELP!! TY MIKE

Mike
You are right on both accounts
Yes there is a filter you can and (in my opinion) should use
and
Yes some of the problems may be from the way your power is connected, you definately should run power streight to the battery!!!
I would do both!
Hope this helped

Hi Mike:
That's gonna be though to nail down, could be the Onboard Computer,AC,Alarm System,Fuel Pump,etc...
You will need to sniff the noise with a piece of coax cable conected to your Radio, and going around your vehicle with the cable end, placing the cable close to your computer and listen on your radio for the noise, under the hood, could be your alternator too,etc...

Good Luck Amigo

Mike, Sounds like you have a lot of research to do. The cars componets are giving off the signals. With this S9 carrier what does it sound like? A dead key? A whining sound?
Be sure your radio was tuned by a pro for starters. The first thing I would do is try a different antenna? Never use a cheapy! Make sure the antenna is grounded very good to the car, this is important. If your using a magnet antenna you may not be getting the grounding it needs. I well grounded antenna rids a lot of RFI. Also be sure the radio is grounded well to the metal frame in your dash. Cheap coax can also cause trouble. Never skimp on coax and antennas! Be willing to pay the bucks for the good stuff! The antenna not the radio is the most important part of the whole setup.
You can also remove the coax from the back of the radio while its on to see if the problem goes away to determine if your getting the RFI through your power leads or antenna or both. Never key the radio without an antenna! So you already ran the power straight to the battery? Run an additional Negative black power wire to the frame of the car. Try all the ideas we have told you and you will probably have some good luck. Research the many filters available if all else fails.
Its a nice car you have so most likely your not gonna be drilling any holes for an antenna. For that car I recommend a Wilson 1000 trunk mount antenna. It will ground better than a magnet Wilson 1000. Although a magnet type Wilson would probably work well also. If you already have a Wilson then still try a different antenna. Hope you get it taken care of. Let us know how things go, we won't leave ya hangin! 73

Ground, ground, ground everything, body frame, engine, radio, amp, antenna etc. everything. This does not have much to do with your problem but it sounds like you are not very experienced with radio, none of were when we started, anyway has anyone adjusted your SWR?
