Hi, I have a question about finals in a 10m radio I have. A Superstar 4900b radio. It currently has a 2SC2166 driving 2 2SC1969's. What would happen if I used a 2SC1969 in place of the 2166 and used it to drive 2 2SC1945's Would this work? What type of output power could be expected? Just was sitting here thinking about it. Any help would be great. Thanks, Rich |

i dont know if the 2SC1969 would work for a driver, and if it did, you would have to change peripheral parts to get it to work right. that involves a lot of equations or a lot of experimentation, which could be deadly to the radio. if it did work, you wouldnt gain anything anyway, since to get a 1/2 S-unit increase on someones receive, you have to double your power output. that would not happen with the new transistors. buying a small linear would be your best bet. matt |

Copake, I agree with KV. A 1969 needs more drive into it than a 2166 does. I don't think a 1969 would make a good driver for a radio built to drive a 2166 into a pair of 1969's. Trying it would be a mess. I think it is possible to use a pair of 30 watt 2312 finals with the 2166 driver which should give a few more watts. Nobody is gonna be able to tell a difference so like KV stated just get yourself an amp. A 4 pill amp would be the best match. |
