how do you know it was the final that "went out"?
could you describe the conditions present when the radio stopped working?
be specific and detailed.
usually, with some discussion, ideas will start popping into existence.
good luck,
i'll check back tomorrow,
matt

It was doing fine then it would transmitt no more so I checked it with a radioshack trans. checker and it read no good so I replaced it and now I have one watt on AM and SSB I have checked the driver ,predriver and the driver for the pre driver all checked good
check cap to see if went to ground none so far crossed some of the cap couplers with same value and no change in watts, checked res. and diodes in transmitt circuit...what em I missing

thanks

sounds like you're on the right track for troubleshooting it.
all i have for you are some maybe's.

what about the little diode that attatches to the heatsink above the final?
im assuming that this chassis still uses the 2166/1969 driver and final, if not, please tell me what the transistors are.
if its the 1969 final, there are lots of people out there selling bogus, bad, or used 1969's on the net.
where did you get the new one from?

check the bias on the final and driver, but if everything seems to be normal, i would start looking for things external to the radio that might have changed.
confusing,
good luck, and post anything you find,
matt

Found the problem
My granddaughter and I was playing with echo on
talkback and the radio quit working

The final shorted
Repaced it ...Now everything is working good

The new final must have been bad...my first bad new final in 15 years

Thank for your help
