Which is a better radio? I think they are the same radio with a diffrent case and one has weather channels, one is ac/dc. Please help me decide on which one to buy. |

Dxmodulator, Sorry never used a Galaxy 2547 but We LOVE our Ranger 696F SSB Base with the JCD-201M Desk Mic on it. Guess it depends on what style you like and if you like the Large Rack Mount Style radio's like the Ranger 696F SSB Base Radio. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 & Shirley 1st Sargant CEF164 CVC#3 |

the galaxy 949 & 959, as well as 2547 use the same ept0696XXX board as the TR696 base, 696fd1, 396AM, new 900 series & a couple others. i found the 696 base & fd1 to be quieter (less white noise) on receive then on ANY of the galaxy radios above. also quieter then the TR966. the 959 does not seem to receive as well as the fd1, overall. those were the only 3 i had together at the same time. same boards....yes....but there still is a difference inside. |

I had a 696fd1 and it had an awsome rec. and I got great audio reports from everyone I talked to. It did not drift on SSB after about 5-10 min. of warm up like so many radios do. AP |

I think I am going to go with the 2547 beacuse of the ac/dc feature, it will come in handy in the mobile. If I order one from copper will they open up the clarifier and realign the PLL. I will pay extra for extra work. I know I can do it my self but I don't have a frequency counter to do the PLL alignment. Do I have to speak to a tech upon ordering or just ask the sales person to add on a peak and tune and claarifier mod? |

Dxmodulator, No the Copper Tech will not do any Modification's that could possibly VOID your Factory Warranty on any radio. The Frequency Conversion on the 2547 requires adding two SPST switches, wire and connecting them along with drilling holes in the case for the SPST switches or using 2 of the Function Switches on the radio which would disable those function's. I also have the Frequency Modification listed in the Modification List located to the LEFT of the Forum here under Tools Hope this help's, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

You should use a professional calibrated freq counter. A plug-in unit will not have the accuracy needed, it's a built-in one in a seperate box. BUT my counter in my (now sold....PAT) 2547 was spot on all the time. |

Needed money to justify the purchase of the Yaesu FT-857D..... And then a Yaesu FT-60R HT that will arrive tomorrow. As long as boxes going out=Boxes coming in the wife knows no better The galaxy actually sat on a shelf for over a year and a half after I discovered the "Magnum 257 phenomona" The Magnum was just WAY more radio with WAY better audio.
