The soft mod only works ont he 857, not the 857D.
The latter version is modded via soldered in jumpers only, they are 0Ohm SMT "resistors". After the mod you will need to reset and probably loose all of your user defined functions and it will need re-programmed.
I have no intention to mod mine... But here's the mod. It's niot eas easy as it looks and you MUST be good wiht SMT re-work procedures, it's an expensive radio to mess up just to be able to transmit where you can't. Notice the strange jumper sequence but this is how the jumpers appear.
