There are 2 different models of the Washington, one has the UPd 858 PLL and the second model has the MB-8719 PLL, each of the 2 models mods differently.

The newer model Washington with the MB-8719 PLL, requires that the PLL control crystal be changed to do the channel mods, the newer Washington is one in the same radio as several others to include the Cobra 142 GTL, Teaberry Stalker-XV. Years past I've owned both the 142-GTL and the Stalker-XV and they are fine sideband base radios, got many good reports with both of them.
Try CB Tricks for the mods and that should tell the frequency of the new crystal that has to be changed.

--Do a Google search for the Expo 100 kit. The "B" kit is the one you need. It's the same kit that is in my President P400 (exact same radio as the Uniden Washington) I think the frequency coverage will be 26.525-27.845. With the Expo 100 kit, all you do is take out the 11.1125 PLL crystal that is inside of the radio and put it in the three position crystal switch...you don't have to change the crystal to a different value like in the other mod.

I installed the Expo kit in my Washington, and when I tested the radio it skipped 27.485, should be channel 7 on the upper switch. I tried to adjust the VFO with no luck.

The radio can be modified by changing the n codes on the PLL chip. Its a matter of putting either voltage to some of the pins or a ground. The clarifier is modified by aplying a DC voltage to the clarifier that is normally removed on transmit. You can add a switch on back of the radio to switch in the extra channels. You really need a PLL book to use this method and of course know what youre doing.

Like someone else has stated you can also get an expo kit made for the washington that has crystals attached to a switch but you will need a frequency counter to do the fine tune adjustments. The kit normally comes with instructions on how to install it.
