Depends on which part of the power supply is bad. Yes, Radio Shack does still carry some parts, but it's going to be as N8XFJ said run it on at least a 6 amp filtered external AC power supply. Also the radio works much better on a power supply, been there done that with several base radios, sometimes the built in supply isn't heavy enough to run some radios after a peek and tune. |

So the power supply works, the radio transmits and receives, but it's got a warble? It sounds like the power supply is okay, but it's peaked too much. The radio draws too much current and it causes a warble on peaks. Did this just suddently start happening with no changes to the radio? Has it been recently "peaked." Is the warble there if you back off the microphone gain? Have you tried dropping the carrier to 4 watts or less? |

if the final has been volted, then you would most likely hear a warble on modulation peaks with the stock power supply. if you have a voltmeter that will handle more than 5 amps (most will do 10 amps), then hook it inline with the positive lead going from your external power supply to the radio. (if you were to cut the positive lead, you would hook one lead to one side of the cut, and the other lead to the other side of the cut. that is how you "sample" current. its not the same as reading voltage) key the mic and whistle into it with the mic gain as far up as it will go without squealing. how many amps does the radio draw? the stock power supply is rated for about 3 amps max. most only put out about 2.2 amps max. if the radio is drawing more than this with the external supply, then you cant use the internal one anymore, and must use the external one. matt |
