I want to ask a question about this drawing with a added problem. what it on the other side of the tower is a garage with an electical ground about 13ft away, should that ground be connected to the antenna ground and also over to the equipment ground? |

Electrical grounds are not normally bonded to RF grounds unless that is the same electrical ground used by the transmitter. Most of the time, this means anything fed from the same utility transformer hooked to that antenna should be bonded together in some form. If your transmitter (shack) has a ground rod, and that ground rod is bonded to the shack electrical ground, then it is already done. So, short answer is yes. |

Forgive me because I am confused. The transmitter I have is going to be hooked to a totally different ground all its own about 30ft away from the house electrical ground so should I still hook them togeher. My garage ground is tied into the house ground but like I said is about 13ft away from both the transmitter ground and the antenna ground. Unless plugging the transmitter in to an outlet of the house means it is tied into the house/ garage electrical ground.The transmitter plug dont have a ground on it. If I post a drawing can you explain for me what I need to do?
Please be patient with me I just dont want to screw up.

One more question, How do I ground my coax shield. does copper sell somthing for this?

First, if you have ungrounded outlets in your home, you really need to have a station ground bus and bond that to your main ground rod.
To ground the coax shield, if you use Heliax cables, they sell ground kits for them. If you use flexible cables, the easiest way is to install a barrel or other inline connector at the tower base and ground it. The good news is, Copper sells a nice little device that is PERFECT for this use. The 'Lightning arrestor' that sells for around five bucks or a little less. It has a PL-259 (male) on one end and an SO-239 (female) on the other. There is a small lug for connection to a ground wire on the side. |

Shouldn't change reflected power more than a barrel connector.
Which in my expierience is an insignificant amount. FWIW
I grounded using barrels threaded into plate steel with backer bolts that's bolted to the ground rod. Gets it all done on a tidy bulkhead.
