I am looking at a nice mobile radio to run at my house. Looking for a 10 meter deal. I am thinking about a Magnum S9.

If I run this radio at like 2 watts, it will still swing to like 30+.

Will this hurt the KLV 1000? I know you cannot push a lot of DK watts, but I didn't know how swing affects it.

I did a search and was coming up short. I found a lot of relevent info for the KLV 1000P, but that doesn't do me any good.

I have also read Lon's review where he is running low wattage DK, which I want to do.

Thanks for the help again!

The S-9 is way to much radio for the KLV 1000. If you want to run the S-9 you need the KLV 1000-P. Actually the S-9 is not enough radio for the 1000-P.
I had researched myself and none the dual final rigs with 30-50 watts is a good match with the KLV-1000 P. They will work and sound fine. Just can not get the max wattage out.

Best bet to me would be,

Get yourself one of the 80 watt Magnum S-9's and use it with the KLV 1000-P.

Well...I already own a KLV 1000. I don't have a radio for home use other than an old President Washington, but am wanting to get rid of the Washington and get a mobile to free up some desk space.

I appreciate the feedback. I was afraid it would be too much radio for my amp.

What else would be good. Maybe a Galaxy 99?

I need something with AM/SSB, a freq counter, preferable a nice meter, variable power (so I don't have to crack it open each time) and preferably tons of channels or an easy expansion.

Any ideas?

Thanks again for the feedback. I've been waiting to see if someone was goin to reply!

Getting deadkey on one of these radios down is not a problem, but I was just wondering about swing hurting the amp.

As far as dual finals, that's not necissary. The 95T and S-9 just had a lot of the features out of the box I was looking for.

Just some more info :-)

The Galaxy 99 has about the same power as the S-9. Most dual final rigs have simalar wattage.

I know a great radio that would work wonderful with your KLV1000!

The Magnum S-3200B 10 meter base!

Oh man but your looking for something smaller, a mobile. Maybe find a nice Uniden Grant, or older Cobra 148, possibly a Galaxy 959?
If it was me I would just go with the 10 meter Magnum base. It has all the features we like and way more freq. range than a cb.

I'll definatly look into it. I didn't even think about that base.

I'm considering a base now just for convience of a built in power supply.

Yep...I think I will probably go base.

Does the 3200B have variable power?

If not, I'm thinkin maybe a Galaxy 2517 since it has variable power.

I hope the swings on these radios aren't too much though.

If you go with the Galaxy 2517 it will work fine with the KLV 1000.
The Galaxy 2517 is just like a Galaxy Saturn(Not Tubro) I run a Galaxy Saturn(Not the Tubro one)with a KLV 1000 and doing very well with it.

Just have to remember to keep the RF variable power turned all the way down to keying less then 2 watts, and with a RF variable power knob on the front face of the radio is very nice to have when useing a Amp.

Hope all works out for your base set up.

No. The S-3200 has no variable power control on the front. You would need to set the deadkey on the inside which to me is good. This way you never have to worry about accidently applying to much deadkey to the amp.
The Galaxy has more features and I believe a little more power.
Personally I would prefer the Magnum for its lower price and just the standard features you need. I also feel that Magnum has better SSB than Galaxy.
Regardless both rigs will work like a charm with the KLV1000!
