1997 silverado extended cab pickup
rci 2950
currently wired to fuse box, the wire is just rapped around the fuse. This radio needs 7 amps to operate. Any suggestions on a better power source. If the radio is on high the display dims when i key and gets dimmer when I talk. Can I go to the cigarrete lighter with this

I would personally suggest using 8 gauge wire direct from your power cord from the radio direct to the battery and use an 8 Gauge Quick Connect between the radio power cord and wires from the battery.

W90-30014 TP-8 Quick Disconnect For Mobile Amplifiers and Radios

Hope this help's,

NEVER NEVER NEVER connect any radio running more than 1w to a cigarette lighter. THis is more than likely to cuase problems to both the radio and the car.

Follow 808's suggestion, and if you want an auto off feature connect a relay to the ignition circuit so that it turns on when the is power to the accesory side. Then run the radio power thru the swithced contacts on the relay. The radio is powered directly from the battery but will switch on and off with the ignition.
