O.K it's time for me to decide. I have a tx star mod right now. I am selling my x-force because I am getting into ssb more. I can't decide to get a t star 500 or just go for the dx1600. I have the modulator now so I already have the driver for it. Has anybody used these, how much more would this get me compared to the 500.

The DX 1600 is actually 2 DX 500's together. You will get twice the output. Yes the DX 1600 needs the driver and like the other guys said your gonna need around 150 amps dedicated to the DX 1600 and its driver box. Not counting the amps the car needs if your talking mobile install.
To be honest, if your planning to run SSB local or DX then the DX 1600 is like way more power than you will ever need. The DX 500 is more than enough amp to work the world with considering you have invested in a professional antenna. In fact I have made many 5 X 9 South American contacts sitting in my work parking lot with the motor off and amp at its lowest dial a watt setting. About 150 watts PEP. With a Predator 10K antenna!
Then on the other hand its all about choice. Each operator has his or her own way of doing things and some of us may want that little extra boost for those "just in case" moments.
Ya know I have had an eyeball on that new Texas Star DX 1600V variable output 10 pill amp!
