--Hi, all. I just got in my Texas Star DX1600 and I have a question regarding the supplied power connectors. On the back of the amplifier is a grey connector (it reads "SMH" on it, and it sort of looks like a really big Anderson PowerPole).
--The power connector accepts 2 gauge wire (crimp-on style). However, I do not have a crimper that will accept 2 gauge wire (6 gauge is the biggest I can manage). Where can I find a crimper that handles 2 gauge wire? I have a feeling it will be expensive. If it is, I may just cut off the connector and solder the wires to the "amplifier hookup kit" I have, http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodW90-30050+
--So, what would be better to do? Try to find a crimper that will accept 2 gauge wire, or just cut off the power connector that is on the amp and then solder my Amplifier Hookup Kit to it? Thanks for any help. |

--I don't know if there are any replies waiting in the message queue, but I have gone ahead and decided to remove the grey plastic power connector and just expose the red and black wires and solder them to my amplifier hookup kit. The kit is supposed to handle the amperage a DX1600 (Sweet Sixteen) will draw, so I will just use that. Thanks. |

check your local NAPA auto parts store.If your lucky it is one of the older stores that has the Belden crimpers to make battery cables.another item you might look fore if you have a near-by autosound shop is a power connection block(do a web search for Scosche efx connectors).SMH or Systems Material Handling Co. connectors are made by Anderson so if their not propriatary to smh a mating connector(175 amp btw)should be easy to find.2awg is an awful big cable to try to solder.

I went to the local Interstate battery shop, and they crimped mine.....no charge either. I also am running the DX1600. |
