I'm looking into getting a base amp. I'm running a Galaxy DX2547 with variable key. I'm looking at either the KLV550 or the Boomer 500, in your most honest opinion which would you recommend? Or possibly even the KLV400.
Which of these amps have preamps?
Which ones run tubes and which uses transistors?

852, Myself I would go with any of the KLV models. Power level is up to you.

If you can find a Heathkit SB 200 that might be a good way to go. I run mine 150 watt DK 6 or 700 watt swing. Very good filtering and runs fine off 110. They are older so you need to know someone that knows how to work on them just in case you have problems but its the best amp Ive ever ran. Tubes are still being made and a set will cost about 100 bucks. But run it the way its suppose to be ran and the tubes will last along time! |

I have the KLV400 and it has 2 tunes . I've shot alot of skip with it. I'm happy with it. |

Boomer.I have the Boomer 500, it is 6 years old, I use it daily with my Rci 2950 mostly on ssb, and it has never had a problem. The KLV does not have a power-supply built in like the Boomer. The Boomer is a quality piece of equipment. |

The KLV400 is a base amp and does have a power supply built in to plug and play in your shack. The KL models are the mobile amps and need a power supply to hook up to if used as a base amp.
Wally38, what power are you seeing out of your KLV400 tuber?

I meant 2 tubes. I'm seeing over 400 watts with these new tubes with about a 100 watt deadkey.
I never knew you want to swing into an amp. I always tried to get the highest deadkey and it sounded bad. Now I get nothing but good reports on it. |
