MFJ sales many of these devices called HamProAudio. Some devices have all 3 together and some are single devices.
A while back I made an SSB DX contact with an operator who had the smoothest sounding audio and he cut through the QRM like it was nothing. This guy was demonstating the ProAudio for me and changing his audio around.I was very impressed! It was just really rich audio and so easy to understand. Ever since I have been curious.
Do any members use one of these devices or ever used one in the past? What models and how did you like them?
Can someone explain about them? I know basically what the EQ does but what about the conditioner and articulator? How do they work?
I also wonder this. Since they are wired for the 8 pin ham mics. Do you think it is possible for me to use one with my JCD-201 mic but wire it to fit a Magnum S-9 or similar export?
Right now I am just curious if there would be much benefit and how well it would work with your average export radio.
Any and all replys please.
thanks,
kenny

Hi Kenny/Hotwire:
The MFJ-655 looks very similar to the EQplus by W2IHY.
Many Hams use them to enhace the Audio TX with superb results.
There is another site by nu9n that shows all the aspect about ESSB HiFi Audio.
The main key is to have a transceiver capable of over 3khz. bandwith, this can be done with some modifications to the IF circuit.(IF Filters need to be replaced in some cases).
Also how low the bandwith response from your radio can go.
You will look for 20 to 40 Hz. low response to 3khz. or over on Top.
I use a Adonis 7500E with Equalizer Built in/Speech Compresor with my Yaesu FT-890,FT-757GX and Ranger AR-3500.
This Microphone is very similar to yours with the add on equalizer, also I have one just like yours by is made by Adonis.
This microphone has low response to 270Hz. wich is OK but the HamProAudio MFJ-655 goes down to 50Hz. (better lows)and Highs up to 3.2Khz.
Regarding your Radio Magnum S-9 should work with a slight modification to the RX circuit, your radio need to be able to have RX audio with out a microphone conected, this can be done with a little relay mod to your radio or any radio that need a mike to be plug in to get RX audio.
Normally all the Ham Microphones use Audio and PTT Line, the radio receive with out a microphone conected.
Also some people use Profesional Audio Equipment, like equalizers,procesors,compresors,mixers,etc.. to acomplish the same thing, but RF Feedback is hard to tame when you use all this equipment in your Audio Chain.
Check the sites that I mention, you will be hook to ESSB.
If you don't want to spend a lot a money on this equipment, try to find a Kenwood MC-60 Desktop Microphone, they have one of the best natural sound.
To conect this microphone to your radio could be a little tricky, check the above recomendation.
