has anyone ever converted one of these to 10 meters? if so is it worth the effort? |

by install of expo kit it will do 26515 to 27855 with #10 NOT grounded with 10 grounded it will do 28.055 to 28.495 or 11.6908mhz gives 28050 to 28.500 |

I added a potentiometer to pin 10, ground and chip + viltage, without going into detail, this places the pin in three states instead of two. When the voltage is dialed in at 1/2 cip +...on pin 10, you get coverage from 28.095 to 28.355MHz. This is in use with the usual PLL mod... |

I have one that is converted, but currently no LSB since I moved. Prior to that it worked great and was destined to be installed in the SUV for both 10m and CB. Once fixed that is where it will end up.

If it's just the 10 meter phone band you want and not the full 11 meter mod. For starters I'm not sure if this mod will work on any radios other than the Early model 148s, Grant-XL/LT, Cobra 2000-GTL and second model Uniden Madison. To do 10 meters on the Cobra 2000 GTL the PLL chip has to be changed.
It's a very simple and legal mod for any one that has an amateur license.
The radio will also still have the full 40 CB channels.
Simple hook up with a single pole single throw toggle switch if you don't want to use any of the switches on the radio. Pins 10 and 17 of the PLL chip will be connected through your switch. Channeling will start on channel 1 and run to channel 40. the coverage will be 28.245.0 to 28.695.0 MHz. Now the VCO can has to be adjusted to capture 10 meters. If you only want 10 meters it's best to do a power tuning. 28.300.0-28.500.0 will be on channels 6 up to 21. It's best to have an open clarifier and the 10 KHz. up and down mod. to get the full use of 10 meters. Have fun and enjoy.
