has anyone tried using asymmetrical limiting on the cb band??

We use this on AM Broadcast to modulate the AM Carrier to -99% and +120% this helps make the staton get out further and sound louder.

I was not sure if CB's have been designed to prevent this as i know the FCC has mandated all sorts of technical junk on Type accepted CB Radios.

Also some sort of AGC/Leveler befor the Asymmetrical Final Limiter would keep the audio at a constant level.

Note: Asymmetrical limiting only works in AM mode and does not work on FM or SSB.

It has been going on with the CB crowd for a long time. Do a search for 'NPC modification'.

BTW, asymmetrical modulation works great for shortwave too!

FCC limits on positive peak for AM BCB is 125%. But, I remember discussing with older engineers the days when there were no limits and stations would go 200% or more when possible. That was before Bob Orban ever built an AM audio processor. The hottest thing available was the CBS labs Audimax.
