My radio will dead key 150 - At that level it has downward swing - At 100 watts it will swing to about 120, at 50 watts it will swing to about 110- I heard stories this radio will swing to 180 . Any suggestions that will make it swing more ? |

no one on the receiving end can tell the difference between 110 watts and 180 watts.

i understand.
do an experiment for me.
get a radio friend that you trust to listen to your transmitted signal on his radio.
do not tell him what you are doing to your radio.
(this is most important!)
set your deadkey at 50 watts, and give him a 5 second deadkey.
note his S meter reading.
now turn your deadkey up to 100 watts.
give him another 5 second deadkey.
note his s meter reading.
did it change?
i bet it changed by about 1/2 an S unit.
maybe 1 s unit if his meter is really loose.
the way is works is; you have to increase your output power by 4X to get another S unit in someones receiver.
so if your 50 watts gives him an S-5,
then 100 watts will give him S-5.5,
200 watts will give him S-6,
800 watts will give him S-7.
gets expensive doesnt it?
i know its a bummer but thats the way the physics work.
set your deadkey at 50-70 watts, and let the radio swing up with your audio.
a nice low deadkey lets you be long winded on the key without heating up the radio, and as you can see, it makes very little difference, if any, on the receiving end.
