How do you get the face off this radio so that a body can replace a meter light and maybe fix some push buttons that fell down inside? I have tried taking out the perimeter screws and collar nuts around the mic plug and ear phone plug. It will then wiggle some, but it is still stuck like it is glued on. What am I missing? |

I do not see right off how the knobs come off to possibly get to some nuts. I am being cautious about just giving the knobs the big pull. I started out trying to fix the push-buttons, and I succeeded in knocking out two lights. So I am cautiously studying the problem. Unfortunately, I am not coming up with any obvious answers. Thanks for your help, Matt M. |

they are probably on there very very tight. make sure there is not a set screw in each of the knobs first. i dont think there is. get yourself some rubber dishwashing gloves, and put them on. wash your hands (gloved) in hot water, and then dry them off completely. gloves should be almost sticky at this point. get ahold of the radio under your arm, like you have it in a headlock. with your strong hand, grab one of the knobs and pull as hard and straight as you can. you will be surprised how they will just stay put for a while and then suddenly, they begin to slide off. dont get frustrated, just keep at it. after you get them all off. you will want to use a deep socket to unscrew the nuts if at all possible. using needle nosed pliers allows a lot of room for slipping and hurting yourself or scarring the radio. if you must use the pliers, get the skinniest ones you can find. good luck, and be careful! matt |

The knobs would have to all come off. I chose not to do this though. I soldered to the backside of the existing switches and run wires to the back of the radio to some new switches that I installed. Everything is working A-OK now. |
