When setting your DK imput for an amp, should the amp be disconnected? Radio-meter-ant or can you leave the amp in line, radio-amp-meter-ant? I'm just trying to make sure i have the correct DK imput for my amp. thanks

kind of an ambiguous question because it will work either way, but you may notice slight differences in readings when changing the jumpers around.

i dont know all the why's, but here is what i have experinced.

to me, the most accurate way to set the deadkey of the radio is with the radio connected to the wattmeter, and out to the antenna or preferrably a dummy load.
first be absolutely sure that the antenna is tuned, and installed correctly.
if SWR is above 1.7 or so, you may want to do some fine tuning before setting the deadkey.

now, i have noticed that my amp likes it better when there is a wattmeter inline between the radio and the amp.
my radio has a somewhat accurate SWR meter built into it.
for example:
if i hook the radio to the amp, the amp to a wattmeter, and the wattmeter out to the antenna,
the SWR INTO the amp might be at 2 to 1.
now when i hook a wattmeter inline between the radio and amp, leaving the other wattmeter going from the amp to the antenna, i get a 1.5 to 1 SWR going into the amp.
the SWR going out of the amp does not change much at all.

so, my opinion is that if you have the equipment, hook it all up the way you want to run the radio, and then do your tuning.

this is just the way i do it, others surely will have other opinions,
matt
