I just got a apollo 500x-2 amp 1 driving 3 and i was wanting to know how to tune up a tube amp..
first tube amp i ever had (allways ran pills) so dont know how to tune one

Which bands does the amp cover? Does it have load,tune,drive knobs?

Just covers 11 meter only and it has a drive knob and ant tune knob . Im putting 1/2 wat key into it and swinging about 40 watts

What is the best way to tune up one of these amps.
Im putting 1/2 watt deadkey into it and swing'n about 30 watts. It's a four tube amp 1 driving 3.
with drive knob and ant tune knob. And covers 11 meters only

Any small base amp with a single driver tube will be overwhelmed with 30 Watts peak drive.

A 'big' base radio in the day that box was built would bust a gut to swing half that much.

Sounds like you need a larger amplifier or a smaller radio.

That single driver tube probably won't take that kind of drive for long before it fails.

if it blows it blows but thats not the question... what is the best way to tune it up on any radio

carolinagold, I would have the tendency to tune it like it as if it had a load & plate knobs. put both at 12:00 then a quick DK adjust the drive for peak reading then do the same for the ant. tune knob

Tune for max modulated peak power. No matter how many knobs it has.

well since my apollo has 6lq6 tv sweep tubes.
i wonder if i can get lucky and maybe find a set of tubes at a tv repair shop.
