No don't laugh this is no joke , I bought a mobile amp yesterday and the name is Bimbo 100, lol.Its a mobile amp with 2 PT9797a finals , its good for ssb,cw,am and fm,it also has a preamp.Dimensions are 8 1/2 inches long,3 1/2 inches wide and 2 3/4 inches high.It looks like it may be an older amp,but the good thing about it is it has a very good output filtering system IE , does not drive the swr up at all.The lowest wattage that I can use to get it to key is about 1 watt, which shows 50 watts output.I didn't push it too hard as my power supply is only rated at 10 amps.Does anyone know what I can expect to get out of a pair of PT9797A's.The input resistor is a 1/2 watt rating .I don't want to smoke it with to much input. The 50 watts output was on am only.Anyone have any ideas or suggestions.
Tnx Bob CEF451

Robert,

Each of those transistors is rated for 78 watts max. So together, you should see 150 without driving them to saturation.

The PT9797A isn't the same as the 9797. It seems to be a reduced power device and does not have the same rated output. The PT9797 seems to be rated for 100-110 watts, but again that's a max limit.

Cross reference shows the SD1451 is supposed to be similar to the 9797, but I can't say about the "A" version.

I would shoot for that 150 watt output figure and see how that goes. Check temperatures of the devices. If they seem UNDULY hot, you may want to back down a bit.
