Got my new 257 in today, and it had the expand and alignment done when it was ordered, but I have a question. It seems that the digits on the frequency display do not change when I move the clarifier. I can hear a difference when moving it, and locals on the other end hear me changing, but the display just stays the same.
I assumed that the frequency display would change along with any adjustment made with the clarifier, am I correct? Am I doing something wrong?
Also I do not see any tx or rx s/rf indicator bars, how do I get those to show up on the display? |

just got my  257 from the ups man today, too! the cpu design using a freq display does not change with clarifier movement. my delta is the same way, as is the omega. the pll controlled S-series radios with a freq counter do change with clarifier movement. your radio is fine.
i have yet to remove mine from the box, so i can't say about the indicator bars. have you been hearing a strong enough signal to move the rcv bars? is mic gain/rf power turned up externally? did you check output on a wattmeter? just going for the obvious first  |

Thanks for getting back so soon....good to know that about the display, I guess I'm just used to how my S9's change when you play with the clarifier.
As for the s/rf bars...I am recieving plenty well enough on both my Cobra 2000 and an S9 here at my desk, and they both show a good rx signal from the person I'm talking to, and the 257 is recieving fine also...same audio from the same person on all 3 radios, just no rx bars on the 257. Power mic turned up and the variable is also turned up, but no tx bars either.
As for power, on the DOSY TFC-3001, I am getting 1-15 with the variable turned down, and 15-35 with it turned all the way up. I'll try it on my PALSTAR PM2000AM Mobile Watt Meter later tonight, as I think it is more accurate.
I also opened the mic to check out the pot inside and playing with it I was able to get a little more modulation. I have not opened the radio though, as I was waiting for some advise on the aboved listed questions.

can't help you at the moment. i plan on keeping my XL in the mobile for 11m dx, i got the 257 for 10m in my mobile. probably won't even get to open the box til the weekened. will check it out then & let you know what i find. i did not have mine set up by copper, so we'll just have to see where everything is. hopefully i'll be able to let you know over the weekend. maybe another 257 owner can answer the 'bars' question. if not, maybe give sam a call tomorrow or next week.  |

wheres the pot in the mic im not a tech but i would like more modulation and do i need a plastic screw driver or something? |

Open the mic, and right in the middle is an adjustable pot. Mine was set at the 1/2 way point. Adjust to your preference. I always use a set of plastic tools for adjustments on radios. |
