I aquired a 2950(must be second generation-orange light/no battery on board) that was already modded for 11m. I kept it in the house on a bench covered up except when I actually used it to talk, it was/is absolutely as clean and shiney as it was when it first came out of the box.
Problems have arisen though, I needed a unit for my truck and installed it. Second day in there it stopped receiving, I could hear sidebanders when indicated channel was 27.185 and no am. I put it on a counter and found that when the display says 27.185 it is actuallt tx/rc at 28.685. Any one have ideas as to where to start, other than a good alignment? I have no signal generator and according to specs it is needed to do so. |

check the SPLIT button.
this radio has the ability to transmit on one freq. and receive on another.
find a copy of the manual online by googling "rci2950 manual". im sure you will find one.
read the section about SPLIT freq. operation, and figure out how to turn it off.
if this isnt your problem, you may have CPU issues.
also, these radios are notorious for having intermittant problems when mounted in a mobile using the bracket because the bracket flexes the board, revealing cold solder joints and bad connections.
if the split thing doesnt work, try reheating all the solder connections near the bracket mounting holes in the radio.
