OK...this is a talkback question...

On radios that have no speaker sound without mic plugged in, all you have to do to install talkback is put a resistor or VR pot between the positive of the ext. spkr and board ground, negative to negative from ext. spkr to pa(this is also how talkback ext. spkrs work), receive pin on mic connector to board ground, or mic with built in talkback...All you basically do is restore the speaker ground that the mic switches during tx...no problem...

Now, how is it done on radios that Does have speaker sound with mic unplugged??...the above mods don't work, also talkback ext. spkrs and talkback mics don't work...I've installed TB in more than a few radios, but this is the first time I've run into this little problem...

The particular radio here is a President Washington Base(not uniden, it has the 858pll)...I would like to use either a good echo board or a good echo mic, either way I have to Hear it to set it...any suggestions??

ok...after some experimenting...I'm still not sure why none of the talkback mods I can find work on this radio, but the PA doesn't work...may be part of the problem...the internal speaker, external speaker, and headphones all work fine...since I never have and never will use PA(esp. on a base radio), I have no idea how PA works, or where to start checking to see if that's my problem....again gentlemen, and ideas????

read my first post...Not ONE of the typical talkback mods work on this radio...I even tried a couple that aren't typical...I still think maybe the PA not working has something to do with it, but I have no idea what to do about it...

I don't need to sit and hear myself talk, but if I could find a way to get it to work Once, I could set everything and lock it down

well if ya dont get it fixed heres what i do
i use a uniden pro510 on a 2 amp p/s no antenna
sitting beside radio with everything hooked up
to.put both radios on same channel and youll
have instant talkback without any mods to the
radio.youll first have to adfjust volume on
the cb without a antenna cause it will squeal
ive found best results using a noice canmcelling
mike.though this will be impossible if your setting your echomaster2000 or s.s.452 eheo mike
