I Recently got a 2990 and I think it is set to factory power...It dead keys 6 on low and swings to about 55 and on high it dead keys about 40 and swings to about 90.

I am wondering if I can get anymore out of this radio and how do I preform any mods that would get the 150 to 200 watts I hear these things are capable of.

This is an original RCI-2990 with the orange lit background for the freq. counter and meters.

green face i believe will do 150-200.dont remove
any mod limiter.it will ruin the radio badly

I never remove mod limiters. I am just trying to get the most wattage out of the radio safely without doing any damage to it.

Well it seems the best I can get out of her is about 75 watts AM and about 90 on SSB. what a shame I was under the belief that there was more to this thing...I guess I will use it for a mini driver for a real driver. I was told that there are some component mods that I could do to get more out of it but the person I talked to had no idea what they were. These measurements were all done on a Daiwa CN-801HP with a 500watt dummy load . If that makes any difference.

this radio uses the same board as the old 2950.
do a search for "2950 mods" and you should come up with quite a few.
do the transistor upgrades.
they work great.
also, the receiver transistor and diode mods work great.
sorry i dont know any part numbers off hand to help you,
matt
anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!
