the 2985dx is a great base radio. There is a Npc Mod for it. but the 2985 is surface mount componets very hard to work on for a rookie.
Npc Is negative Peak Compression of the waveform when looking at the signal on an O-scope. The negative peaks are compressed which make the pos louder, in turn you sound louder and you get more PEP. It's best to have a tech do the conversion, because to set it up the right way you need to view the signal. You can get very close buy dropping the parts in and some tunning. Npc radios also run cooler when the finals are setup to run linear. This involves running 13.8 to a select tp in the radio and setting the bias for improved performance. I personaly think that its the bomb of mods, until someone comes up with something better.

Take care
Tim
