Exactly what is involved in modifying this radio? Do all the necessary parts come with the radio? Is it a do it yourself job? 73 |

Yeh, you can modify it yourself, but you have to buy the plug in board to do this and it is another 40 bucks. For this radio to be converted, you have to buy the board whether you do it or they do it. Big rip-off IMHO!!!! HARVE UNIT199 CEF210 CVC#18

Graymattter, To do the frequency expansion you need to use the Ranger Expansion Module. If you purchase your radio from Copper Electronics the Frequency Expansion Module from Ranger is included at NO EXTRA CHARGE! As for other dealer's I cannot say and they may charge you for it. It is suggested to have the radio aligned and tuned to Ranger Specification's after the frequency conversion for maximum performance by an Authorized Ranger Dealer, which will keep your Ranger Factory Warranty intact shoud anything go wrong with your radio during the Ranger Factory Warranty period, but it is NOT required and is YOUR choice. And yes you can do it yourself. For more information use the Search feature located under Utilities located to the left of the forum here and type in: expansion module Hope this help's, Lon~Tech808 CEF#808~HAM#001 CVC#002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

I had purchased a used RCI 2950DX from a person online and when I received it it was already converted to cover 24.0000 mhz - 32.0000 mhz. And when I opened it up I noticed a small board that had shrink wrap around it with a couple wires coming out of it and connecting to the back of the cpu board. Which I am under the impression that is is indeed a frequency expansion board. I was surfing the net for mod info for the 2950DX and found a webpage explaining that if the frequency expansion board is installed properly and a small programming trick is done, the radio could reach as far down as 18.0000 mhz. Giving it a freq coverage of 18.0000 mhz - 32.0000 mhz. Giving this radio a total of 1400 true 10 khz channels. Oh by the way, my radio has a board with the part number of EPT695014B and I did a google search on it and nothing showed up. Hmmm must be a really new export board. |
