I recently bought this radio on an auction site. Radio worked fine for 2 days then all of a sudden magic smoke. This radio has been hevily modified extra channels, peak and tune. I narrowed it down to transformer T1 which is a TF-106 part #. My question is whether the transformer from a 29 ltd will work in its place as I have one of thsese 29ltd as a parts buck. |

Before replacing the 'transformer' it would be wise to find out what made it fail in the first place. Transformers, chokes, coils, etc do not normally fail without an outlying cause. I would be especially suspect of any capacitors in the immediate circuitry surrounding the part in question. Caps are known to short with age. As you purchased this rig through an auction site it is possible that it has been in an unused state for a period of time. The old saying that "if you don't use it, you lose it" applies to electronic components, too. A SAMS Photofact CB-126 would be a very good investment if you intend on keeping this radio. Sorry...I forgot to answer your question....No, the audio transformer from the 29LTD will not work as a direct replacement in the 138XLR. You can find a schematic and other technical info for this radio on the internet: CEF #964 HAM #276 Ham Radio - Talk worldwide on a tin can and a wet noodle

I have a parts 138xlr. Can send u the transformer. just pay shipping. i'd also suspect a cap that has shorted. you'll have to unsolder one end and use an ohm meter. if shorted it will show up. email me direct at teham_@iowatelecom.net. tony/n5jva |
