I recently modded my cobra 29. I put the EKL mosfet mod along with a swing kit. The issue is my dead key is 0 watts but swings to 30 watts. The problem is it won't trip the relay in my amp untill I talk and if I take a breath it shuts the relay off till I talk again. I need my deadkey higher I would also like make it a variable deadkey. Does anyone know how this is done.

what kind of swing kit did you use? did you put A cap across jp36 and if so did you put the jumper back in? when you did the mosfet mod did you pull the slug all the way out or just adj. just some ? I need to know also ch all solder joints ck the joint at r123 . as far as variable power go to jp36 take out jumper hook 1wire in one hole and 1 wire in the other hole hook both wires to veryable tuning pot.that the simple way. there are others that I have done by adding transisters ect. you can find them on the net put in cobra 29 mods and see what comes up

did you do the cap and resister mod at the final ?if so put a 75 or 100 ohm resister across the cap at the jumper to increase the dead key

Sounds like double sideband with suppressed carrier and the amp is only detecting your input when you talk, try and see if you can adjust up the carrier just a tad to get the amp to key,if not get rid of the mod and put the radio back to stock.

pull the cap and resister mod out and see if you get a dead key.this will eliminate that part of the dead key issue as captain radio suggested

try take the swing mod out turning it 180 degrees and poping it back in i think if you put the banded end on the wrong side it will key nothing and then swing instead of a 2 or 3 watt dead key hope this helps
